Exclusive riverside ramble along the River Kennet

DATE: 3rd September 2022

TIME: 17:00 pm – 20:30 pm

LOCATION: The meeting point is in the small hamlet of Stitchcombe, SN8 2EU

The River Kennet is a beautiful chalk stream passing by Marlborough and villages beyond. Scattered along the River Kennet are a number of structures including weirs, mills and sluices which help to control the flow of the water. For this workshop we will be stopping by several of these interesting and very photogenic old structures to try and capture the strong flow of the river water flowing through. Your tutors for this workshop are Bob and Pete who will be guiding you on how to frame and visualise your images – before you take them. There will be lots of opportunities for questions as well as guidance on how to set up your camera - if you’re not sure what to do.

Workshop Description

The entire workshop takes place in exclusive areas of the riverbank, on private land, which very few people get access to. Due to there being two tutors to each workshop, and a maximum of just 6 students, you’re assured of personalised guidance in the art of making beautiful images. Due to the excellent stewardship of the river and its environment, all manner of wildlife flourish. Many opportunities will present themselves to you to photograph – from beautiful weir pools to photogenic stretches of the river. We may even come across some photogenic fly-fishermen, with all their gear!

Experience Level

Beginner to Intermediate

The workshop is suitable for any level including beginners.
All participants receive tuition and support so that tutoring can be tailored to your individual needs and experience.
Each workshop is led by two tutors.
No prior knowledge of your camera is required.

Just bring your image capturing device – be it Phone, DSLR or Box Brownie. Well, maybe not the last one! Whichever way you capture your photographs, we’ll help you to elevate your images to a higher level. We’ll be exploring in the Forest so sensible comfortable footwear like walking boots or wellington boots are advised. Tripods can be brought with you if you wish and we will share our guidance with these if you do, but they’re not an essential part of this workshop.

As with all activities, we recommend that you bring sufficient water to last the time with us, so that you don’t get dehydrated. If you take medications, please remember to bring these too. Please ensure your device is fully charged, in addition to any spare batteries also spare storage cards, where necessary.

As our English weather can be inclement, please bring suitable clothing for the weather on the day of your workshop, as we will, in all likelihood still run the day – even poor weather conditions can make fantastic photographs.
